This theme comes to my interest from local media, which repeatedly reported about incidents and casualties at the mine the last couple of years. It seemed the numbers of deaths and serious injuries were rising. Some politicians and NGO activists even called to close the mine. But not locals, they wanted to keep working, keep going underground.
When and where were you born, where have you been educated and what are stages of your professional career?
I was born in Tbilisi, Georgia in 1974. I was graduated from Tbilisi Technical University but I have never worked in my speciality. Instead, I made my hobby, photography, my profession. I started with a local newspaper in Tbilisi then news agency and from the 2000 year worked for Reuters for 18 years. Now I'm a freelance photographer.
What is your standard camera equipment? Is there any special or favorite gear?
Last 18 years I've used Canon equipment mostly 1D series. But my favourite gear is EOS 5 MK IV with 35mm/1.4
How do you process/edit your images? What particular darkroom technique, software or apps do you utilize?
As a news photographer, especially working for Reuters, I do not use post-processing software, just basic adjustment like crop or minor levels adjustment. Most of the photography should be done during a shooting. My goal as a news photographer is to show reality as it is.
